Rules, Regulations and Assessment Criteria

Rules for the Quiz – 2018

Most important rule: Judges Decision will be final.

All Participants are requested to report at registration desk Berkmar High School on November 3rd 2018 at 09:00 AM. Each participant will be assigned their tags and will get guidance to go to classrooms for written Test. After participants go to classroom parents are requested to go in Auditorium to participate in parents/youth discussion.

Format for Written Test

  1. The first part of the Quiz competition is written test.
  2. This test consists of multiple choice, True and False, matching the columns questions for all levels.
  3. Level 1 will have 40 Questions and Levels 2,3,4,5 will have 50 Questions.
  4. For level 1 and 2, proctors in the classrooms read and explain the questions.
  5. In case of ties, students are given another test to break the tie.
  6. Five top scorers from each level go for the oral competition in the auditorium.
  7. In order to qualify for the final round, the student must score at least 80% or above.

Main Round

  • Five Finalists will be selected from each level
  • There will be three types of Rounds

First Round: No Buzzer Round

  1. Questions will be asked to each participant directly
  2. Participants will have 10 seconds to answer the question
  3. If the answer is correct, the participant will receive +2 points
  4. There is no Negative marking for the No-Buzzer Round

Second Round: Buzzer Round

  1. The moderator will ask a question and the participant, who presses the buzzer first, will be given the opportunity to answer
  2. The participant will have 10 seconds to answer the question
  3. If the answer is correct, the participant will receive +2 points
  4. But since this is a Buzzer round, the participant will receive -2 point for an incorrect answer or No answer within the time limit
  5. Level 1 will be excluded from buzzer round.

Third Round: Tie Break Round (If needed)

  1. In case of a Tie after first and second round, the participants will be asked further questions.
  2. This round will be based on a knockout. (If one participant’s answers and the other doesn’t then no further questions will be asked and the first participant will be considered as winner)
  3. The participant will have 10 seconds to answer the question
  4. If the answer is correct, the participant will receive +2 points

 

Additional Considerations:

  • In case of an incomplete answer or some other dispute, the Judges will consult among themselves then they will either
  1. a)  Award partial credit (+1 point)

Or (in case of a serious dispute)

  1. b) Void the question altogether, in which case the participant will not receive any points
  • If a participant reaches a net score of –3 point, the Judges will inform the Moderator and this participant will no longer participate
  • The Winner and the Runner-up will be determined based on their Net Scores

 

 Calligraphy, Azan and Qiraa’h Competition.

  • The student must take part in the written quiz competition. If you don’t take part in the Quiz competition, even if you win in any of the following competition, you will not qualify to win the contest, and next student will be awarded the prize who appears in the Written test.
  • The pre-qualifying round for Azan and Qiraa’h will be held on October 27, 2018, at Masjid Al Farooq.
  • Please bring your picture ID and proof of date of birth (for example passport, driver’s license, etc.) on pre-qualifying round to confirm the age. For category 1 a contestant should be 5 years or older on October 1, 2018. For category 2 a contestant should be 9 years, but not more than 12 years old on October 1, 2018.  For category 3 a contestant should be 13 years, but not more than 16 years old on October 1, 2018.
  • Students can participate in all the three contests – Qiraa’h, Azan, and/or Calligraphy
  • All participants will be given the medals.

Bilal Ibn Rabah Award

 AZAN PRE-QUALIFYING   

  • Participants will be required to recite full azan with proper tone and Tajweed.  
  • The Azan duration should not exceed 3 minutes.  
  • Participants will be called one by one to recite the Azan

 AZAN-MAIN EVENT RULES AND REGULATIONS  

  • Participants will be judged by a panel of judges in front of the audience.  
  • Participants should be confident to recite Azan in front of the panel of Judges and audience.  
  • Participants will be given 3 minutes to recite the Azan.  

Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdel Samad Award

  • Student will be tested on common rules of Tajweed
  • Result in the written test will not affect the grade in the Qiraa’h
  • Student will have to prepare from the assigned Surahs mentioned on the flyer – Memorizing the Surah is not required

Calligraphy

  • This contest is open to all students of ages 9 & UP.

Procedure

  • The Calligraphy contest will take place on November 3rd ,2018, the results will be announced the same day along with the prize distribution.
  • All contestants are required to draw the following:
  • Contestants will be given 25 minutes to complete their Art work
  • Calligraphy must be done freehand
  • High quality paper will be provided for the Art work. Paper size will be 14″ X 22″ (36cm X 56cm)
  • Contestants are REQUIRED to bring their own drawing instruments
  • Markers, pencils (colored or black), Crayons, Watercolors and oil colors can be used
  • Stencils, carbon-papers, and other copying material will not be allowed
  • During the competition, copying the artwork from any reference will not be allowed
  • Contestants can use any style of calligraphy available and can also use their own style
  • The calligraphy will be JUDGED based on its beauty, originality and for its legibility

For which level should I register?

Please register for the grade level in which you are currently going to school. All grades levels refer to the 2015-2016 academic year.

Does Grade refer to Public School Grade or Sunday School Grade?

Grades in Syllabus refer to Public/Islamic School Grade, they are NOT Sunday or Weekend Islamic School grades. Kids who are home schooled can participate in the grade levels that they would normally be placed in if they were to attend a public school in the 2015-2016 academic year.

Is there a program for parents?

Yes, while the students are taking the written exam, there will be a session for parents/youth in the Auditorium with prominent speakers.

Will I get a participation certificate?

Yes, every participant will be given a participation certificate after the exam.

Will I get a souvenir?

Yes, every participant will be receiving a special participation souvenir.

How many questions will there be in the written exam?

There will be approximately 50 multiple choice questions in the written exam. The questions will have to be answered in approx 30 minutes. The amount of time and number of questions will vary with the level.

I don’t have a PayPal account and I don’t want to open one!

You can pay by any major credit card / debit card without opening a PayPal account. Its quick and easy and our preferred way of receiving quiz registrations. If you feel uncomfortable paying online, then you can fill registration online and bring the check to the quiz competition.

My kid cannot come when the quiz starts due to another commitment. Is it possible to come late and still be able to compete in the quiz?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate such requests.

Will lunch be served?

We will be providing lunch to all the students in the classrooms. Parents will have to make their own arrangements for lunch. There will be food vendor available to buy the foods.

Will I be able to find out the score on the written quiz?

Yes, inshaAllah we will email the grade. The class average as well as your standing in the class will be provided as well to you.

How long the Quiz Competition is going to be?

Be prepared to stay until 3:30 PM. If your child reach finals, program will end at 3:30 PM.
